For years, I have had trouble deciding on a subject or technique, let alone which medium to pursue, because I love working with them all (subjects, techniques, and mediums). I have done everything from figurative, wood, and iron sculpting to metal working and jewelry making, not to mention the more traditional drawing, painting, and printing. That's a lot of different types of art (not 1/10 of which are represented on this website)!
Still, in this pursuit of my calling... my talent... my gift to do artwork, I find myself inevitably following the same process. I think for a long time about what it is I want to make, and then I make it... using whatever process or technique the artwork calls me to use. It's as if I do not choose to do the artwork, but the artwork choose me to make it... to reveal it... to bring it to the world for all to see.
I have found that being a mother has helped me be a better artist. I am more patient. I am more apt to listen. I am more focused. I can get done in half the time what used to take me several hours; and I enjoy the process more fully. I feel it shows in my artwork (and pursuits), too, the passion I feel for the artwork I make.
Right now, my favorite technique is monotype screenprinting. I love the instant result.

JamieMarks, the dream, first came about in 1982 when I began creating special greeting cards for my family and friends. I signed each card on the back to include the word "JamieMarks." It was my way of saying I had left my artistic "mark" on the card. I have been pursuing my dream ever since!
I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing from Arizona State University (go SunDevils!), and produced artwork as gifts until 1998 when, at the urging of family and friends, I decided to take a chance and pursue art as a career. JamieMarks LLC, the official business venture, was launched.
I started by displaying floorcloth and placemat designs in the Southeast United States at a variety of art and craft shows. The business evolved to include artwork such as murals, sculptures and a variety of unique painted furniture pieces.
When I moved back to the southwest, I went back to school for a master’s in art education. With some official teaching experience under my belt, I have been pursuing a variety of teaching alternatives, but I am still searching for my niche. With art appreciation and artmaking as my passions in life, my refocused goals are more in line with my desires and career pursuits.
